As with many things in 21 century, coral reefs are at the edge of extinction and could disappear before the end of this century. Coral beauty, hidden secrets and complex geometrical form attracted my attention the first time I saw them but the fact that we may lose them is what pushed me to give them more space in my art and open the conversation about the importance of coral reefs.
Coral reefs are one of the most diverse and valuable ecosystems on Earth. They hold more species per unit than any other marine environment and there may be millions of organisms that we didn’t yet discover but we are already destroying them. This diversity is important for the whole food chain. Coral reefs feed bigger sea animals that then feed birds and mammals. Fish provides 16% of the animal protein consumed by the world’s population, in Asia this percentage goes up to 26%. In the ecological crisis that we are in, food is going to become one of our biggest problems, we cannot afford to lose coral reefs.
Beside food, coral reefs protect our shores and their biodiversity is considered the key to finding new medicines for the 21st century, like a medicine for cancer. There is so much importance in protecting our reefs if we want to survive as a species but mostly do, we really want to destroy the world we stand on, I believe deep down every human being wants to live in harmony with nature.

Ideas for you: You can always make a donation for replanting corals but here are some things that I do. I first watch which fish I eat, it has to be only the one caught one by one, not using the net, because the net destroys corals and the sea floor. Secondly, I don’t eat canned fish, even if they are marked bio it's a lie and they do destroy corals and kill much more fish in the process of fishing then what they sell later for food. This is one of the ways dolphins die. Third, if you don’t know what gift to get to someone, you can adopt a coral for them. You will pay for an organization to plant the coral in the sea, you can name it and you will get the location of it.
